A word from the Chairman.
" What lies behind us and what lies before us are small matters compared to what lies within us.”
- Ralph Waldo Emerson
On behalf of the board and myself, I take this opportunity to wish all a properous year. As I take up the responsibility of your K.C.E. Chair at a very challenging time in our country’s history, I admit it is not going to be an easy task to bring us together... but I remain optimistic that we will be able to restore the smiles and happiness we have enjoyed as a community in previous years.
It is my wish and my prayer that this year goes down in history as one full of achievements and unity amongst Kenyans living in Edmonton and area. I call upon those who believe it is possible, those people who believe “WE” can own it, not “I” can own it; those who cherish our children, our culture, our people, our country - let us declare our motto for 2008 to be “Harambee!”
I believe that we need to go beyond our usual socialization and set achievable goals and timelines for more impactful projects as per the strategic plan that last year’s K.C.E. Board has set out. Along these lines, I have identified a few areas to focus on this year that I think will serve to enhance our community:
- Programs specific for children, youth and students
- Kiswahili classes
- Development projects – both in Kenya and here in Canada
- Building on the success of last year’s showing at the Heritage Festival
If we can pull together as a community this year we will be amazed at what we can achieve. I am encouraged by other groups such as the Ethiopian and Chinese communities here in Edmonton. If you can share your talents and ideas with the rest of the community please don’t be shy. Let us know how best we can work together to build a stronger K.C.E.
Finally, thank you in advance to all of the K.C.E. members out there for your active commitment to our community – with your full support and participation we will have an exciting and successful year ahead!
Yours in the spirit of Harambee,
Eric Amulaku
K.C.E. Chairman
